KUKA Roboter delivers first ever KR 1000 titan to Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH
Premiere: world champion meets world market leader
Premiere: world champion meets world market leader
Augsburg/Asbach-Bäumenheim, September 2007 – Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH, Asbach-Bäumenheim, is putting its money on the new muscle-bound member of the KUKA robot family: the leading system builder in the field of glass and building materials has purchased the first KR 1000 titan. As announced in May, Augsburg-based KUKA Roboter GmbH has now commenced delivery of the world heavyweight champion. This technological powerhouse already has an entry in the Guinness Book of Records under its belt and will now be playing a decisive role in optimizing processes at Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH. The two companies today unveiled their “titanic” collaboration to the press and the public.
Innovation and global growth – these are central aims of both KUKA Roboter GmbH and Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH. The world’s strongest robot fits the bill. At system specialist Grenzebach, the KR 1000 titan will initially be used for handling special JS sheets and LES glass. Until now, it was not possible to integrate an industrial robot into the handling process. Now, however, this can be implemented for JS sheets weighing up to 600 kilograms, for example, using the heavy-duty robot. The benefits are obvious: increased flexibility, improved glass quality and time and cost savings.
With a payload capacity of 1000 kilograms and a reach of 4000 mm, the “titan” from KUKA is the strongest 6-axis industrial robot in the world. Yet it is not only the giant’s strength that is impressive. The physical attributes of the KR 1000 bring about clear advantages that are simply not possible with alternative machines. The titan is a series-manufactured machine, which makes it a far more cost-effective solution than conventional systems; furthermore, there is no comparable product on the industrial robot market in terms of payload capacity, reach and handling flexibility. It is precisely this combination that defines the “titan”. It can handle the heaviest of payloads over the greatest of distances with unrivaled flexibility.
The manufacturer, one of the world’s leading providers of industrial robots, came up with this unique development in response to requests from its customers. They wanted a new robot type that is ideally suited to the handling of heavy, large or bulky workpieces. It was with precisely this in mind that the heavyweight champion, which will find its place in such sectors as the building materials, automotive and foundry industries, was developed.
Robotic automation
From standalone machines to complete production lines – Grenzebach and its efficient, process-controlled material flow systems point the way in the sheet glass industry. Since 2004, Grenzebach has been relying on high-quality robot technology from Augsburg, which significantly boosts flexibility in the stacking of glass and ceiling panels, as well as in other applications, such as baggage handling. KUKA Roboter GmbH is the ideal robotics partner for Grenzebach: with the technological competence to help shape these processes and the global presence to support Grenzebach worldwide.
Joint innovations from Swabia
The technological leader in the world of robotics and the world market leader in glass systems engineering are planning to collaborate on robotic applications for additional sectors, such as wood, building materials and logistics, with a view to sharing the growth potential that is waiting to be tapped. This partnership has already been on a firm footing for many years, not just in Germany, but also in other locations, such as USA, Canada, China, India, Poland, Turkey and Belgium. The geographical proximity and similar mentality of these two well-established, innovative Swabian companies constitute a stable basis for future developments.
About the Grenzebach Group
The Grenzebach Group has its headquarters in the Bavarian town of Hamlar, about 40 km from Augsburg. Grenzebach has made a name for itself worldwide with high-quality systems and production lines for flat products, such as sheet glass, solar panels, plasterboard, ceiling panels and veneers. Systems for process technology and baggage handling round off the product range. Grenzebach maintains its excellent position on the global market by means of the quality, high efficiency and durability of its systems and also the sophisticated controllers developed by Grenzebach engineers. Grenzebach employs about 1,300 people at its German plants in Hamlar, Bad Hersfeld and Karlsruhe, its American plant in Newnan (Georgia), and in Pune (India) and Shanghai (China). In 2006, sales totaled 200 million euro.
