KUKA Roboter unveils a new tire depalletizing system “KUKA DePalGo Tire” at TireExpo 2008

Untiring depalletization of tires
Cologne/Augsburg, February 2008 – At Europe’s largest trade fair for tire manufacturers, KUKA Roboter is showcasing a brand-new system for unstacking pallets of tires in Hall 7, Booth 6016: “KUKA DePalGo Tire”. The new technology rounds off the product portfolio of Europe’s leading supplier of industrial robots in the sector of tire handling. DePalGo Tire means that tasks such as stacking tires in a rick-rack pattern or depalletizing are no longer laborious drudgery – in future, they will be performed by a KUKA robot.
KUKA DePalGo Tire allows pallets of tires to be automatically unstacked. No matter how tightly the objects are packed or how much they have slipped during shipment, the KUKA robot recognizes their position and reliably picks them up. This is made possible by its laser-based 3D object recognition system. In a cycle time of just 7.8 seconds, it untiringly and faultlessly removes tire by tire from the pallet using a universal gripper system.
Up to 10,000 tires per day
Last year, the Augsburg-based company already surprised its customers with “KUKA ModelTire” und “KUKA PalGo Tire” – the intelligent application modules that enable KUKA robots to palletize car tires from 14 to 22 inches in a rick-rack pattern. This warehouse technology saves human workers time and effort, since a robot can handle between 4,000 and 10,000 tires per day, depending on its gripper system. KUKA DePalGo Tire now rounds off this automation package, which thus represents a complete solution for palletizing and depalletizing tires.
Space savings in the warehouse and on the pallet
Low maintenance requirements and high technical availability are just two of the advantages offered by this new robotic solution from KUKA. On account of its high degree of flexibility, it creates above all more space and greater stacking accuracy on the pallet and in the warehouse. The rick-rack positioning of the tires results in a gain of 33 percent in storage volume. High process reliability, low setup requirements and space-saving cell concepts are further benefits. KUKA Roboter will be pleased to demonstrate these advantages at Booth 6016 in Hall 7.
