KUKA Roboter presents flexible solutions for intralogistics at CeMAT

“Getting to grips with variety”
Hanover, May 2008 – At CeMAT 2008, KUKA Roboter demonstrates how to get to grips with the product variety to be found in a goods distribution center: with innovative gripper systems in a robotic application for depalletizing of layers. At Booth C18 in Hall 27, Europe’s leading supplier of industrial robots is presenting a robot system based on a KR 500 570 PA. An integrated sensor and software concept ensures that this system is prepared for fully automatic and flexible handling of a wide range of different products and packaging variants.
In logistics, and in particular order picking, there is enormous economic potential for optimization. The monotonous, physically demanding nature of this work has long since been used as an argument for automation in this area. For product manufacturers and consumers alike, new packaging variants and ever decreasing quantities of packaging materials are desirable from both economical and ecological standpoints. These requirements pose major technical challenges for automation suppliers and their customers, however. KUKA Roboter responds to these developments with flexible solutions.
High availability with minimal effort
At CeMAT, KUKA shows how this is possible. In an endless loop, a KUKA robot depalletizes different pallet layers using a gripper system in which the products are rolled onto two carrier plates by means of friction rollers. This system allows the depalletizing of a wide range of products and packaging types which conventional technologies were unable to handle.
The layer depalletizing is carried out using very quiet servomotors. The entire gripper system is controlled via the KR C2 robot controller and can also handle slipsheets.
One important customer benefit is the very fast system start-up. This is supported by an integrated database with stored parameter sets and simple, intuitive user interfaces. The start-up work with products or even entire product groups is thus kept to a minimum.
The layer depalletizing system from KUKA Roboter GmbH handles products very gently and also offers the customer short cycle times. It also ensures high system availability, thanks to an intelligent collision avoidance sensor concept, and high process stability.
The future of intralogistics is orange
KUKA Roboter GmbH’s wide product portfolio, ranging from robots and control and drive technology to application modules, such as KUKA Conveyor Synchronization, offers an almost inexhaustible spectrum of solution concepts. These cover the whole range of tasks, from layer depalletizing, inline palletizing and mixed palletizing to layer picking and a variety of applications for deep-freeze storage at -30 °C. Visitors to KUKA Roboter at Booth C18 in Hall 27 can find out more about how these concepts can be custom-tailored.
