1936 First electrical resistance spot welding gun
Oxyacetylene welding has become unprofitable and is abandoned. KUKA turns to electrical resistance welding and constructs the first electrical spot-welding gun in Germany.
Contemporary backdrop
1931: At 449 m, construction of the world’s tallest building, the Empire State Building in Manhattan, New York City, is completed.

1934: Husband-and-wife team Irene and Frederic Joliot-Curie create the first artificial radioactive element.

1935: Ferdinand Porsche builds the first prototype of the “KdF” car, costing less than 1,000 marks. This is later to become the VW “Beetle”.
