KUKA activities are grouped into three independent companies:

KUKA Schweissanlagen + Roboter GmbH, KUKA Wehrtechnik GmbH and KUKA Umwelttechnik GmbH. The workforce currently numbers around 2,000.

Bases abroad are increasingly important for the international activities of KUKA Schweißanlagen + Roboter GmbH; for example, KUKA Welding Systems + Robot Corp. is founded in the US state of Michigan, not far from the “motor town” of Detroit.

1983 sees the setting up of KUKA Automatisme + Robotique S.a.r.l. in France and KUKA Sistemi di Saldatura + Robot s.r.l. in Italy, followed in 1984 by KUKA Sistemas de Automatizacion S.A. in Spain.

Further bases are opened in Belgium in 1985 as KUKA Automatisering + Robots N.V and Sweden in 1987 as KUKA Svetsanläggningar + Robotar AB.
