The "e-smart Connect"-project  as a new step into the future

In the research project, the mobile, omnidirectional KUKA robot CarLa independently connects the vehicle to a charging station in a specially developed application. The driver of the electrically driven car simply has to park in a designated parking space and the robot connects the charging cable for him.

In the summer of 2017, KUKA and Volkswagen Group had signed a cooperation agreement covering the joint development of robot-based innovation concepts for the vehicles of the future. The cooperation ties into an existing joint research project which deals with human-robot-collaboration

The “e-smart Connect” project consists of a practical and user-friendly solution for charging the high-voltage batteries of the electric vehicles from the Volkswagen Group. In addition, an initial prototype of a charging robot for private garages will be shown in the near future.
