KUKA will be at the heart of things when the medical technology sector meets in Düsseldorf from 18 to 21 November. At MEDICA 2019, the company is presenting new application examples for its robots in the medical technology sector. Another highlight: the finals of the KUKA Innovation Award.

Visit us at Booth A22 in Hall 10 and experience Sculptura™ from Sensus Healthcare at first hand

Sculptura™ is a mobile platform that has been developed by Sensus Healthcare for intraoperative radiotherapy. In a first step, the product is to be used in the treatment of breast cancer. The treatment method of intraoperative radiotherapy is characterized by the fact that the exposed tumor bed can be irradiated during surgery. The mobile solution from Sensus Healthcare thus makes cancer treatment more flexible. The integrated 7-axis sensitive LBR Med robot from KUKA enables fast, targeted and extremely precise radiation dosage.

The LBR Med is a collaborative robot for the medical sector and part of the Sculptura™ product from Sensus Healthcare.

Finals of the KUKA Innovation Award 2019 at MEDICA

The KUKA Innovation Award is a competition for talented robotics specialists from around the world and has been a fixed institution since 2014. In this sixth year of its existence, the focus is on medical robotics for the first time. About 30 research teams from around the world entered the competition with their concepts for healthy living. Five teams will present their projects live in the finals at MEDICA. The team winning the award, endowed with prize money of 20,000 euro, will be announced at the KUKA booth on Wednesday, 20 November. In 2020, the focus will once again be on the medical sector with the topic Medical Robotics Challenge.

The winner of the KUKA Innovation Award 2019 will be chosen at MEDICA. The topic of the Medical Robotics Challenge is 2020.

A collaborative robot for the medical sector with a wide range of potential applications

At MEDICA 2019, KUKA is presenting the LBR Med lightweight robot the first robotic component for integration into a medical product that is certified according to the CB Scheme. The versatility of the collaborative robot for the medical sector will be illustrated using five application examples. One of these is the ultrasound demonstration. Here, an ultrasound transducer mounted on the flange of the LBR Med is guided manually by the operator over the body that is to be examined. The robot records the trajectory and can then repeat the learned path independently and with a constant pressure.

KUKA is presenting examples of how robots can be used for assistance tasks in the healthcare sector.
