KUKA appoints new chairman of the management board KUKA Roboter GmbH

The executive board of KUKA Aktiengesellschaft has appointed Dr. Lothar Bakowsky chairman of the management board of KUKA Roboter GmbH effective September 1st, 2009

He will also be a member of the management team of KUKA Aktiengesellschaft.

Dr. Lothar Bakowsky (56) has many years of management experience. After completing his studies in physics and receiving a doctorate at the University of Darmstadt he began his career at Messer Griesheim as a “Laser” division project manager, later becoming general manager of the “Laser” division of the company in 1990. He worked at KUKA Roboter GmbH from 1993 to 1998, first as the director of foreign sales and later as the general sales manager as part of the management board. From 1999 he was a member of the executive board of Palfinger AG in Salzburg, where he was responsible for sales, marketing and technical innovation. Since 2001 Dr. Bakowsky was the sole managing director of Hekuma GmbH, Eching, a company for automation solutions.

As part of the management board of KUKA Roboter GmbH Dr. Bakowsky will take over the sales department along with the responsibility for product management and marketing. Starting from September 1st, Manfred Gundel, who has been functioning as interim chairman of the management board of KUKA Roboter GmbH since February 2009, will become deputy chairman of the management board of KUKA Roboter GmbH in charge of the engineering department and responsible for production, purchasing and R&D. The executive board would like to thank Mr. Gundel for his dedication and successful work in a difficult economic environment, and wishes him continued success as deputy chairman of the company.

Dr. Kayser, chairman of the executive board of KUKA Aktiengesellschaft, welcomes Dr. Bakowsky to the corporation. “With his broad national and international experience, Dr. Bakowsky is a great addition to the management board of KUKA Roboter GmbH and he will contribute to develop the robotics division further.”
