Difficult day for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler
Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler scored points with both cars at the first E-Prix in Bern. Unfortunately, the team suffered a setback in the Formula E title fight.
The E-Prix began chaotically. Not a minute had passed since a mass pile-up occurred in the first corner in which half of the entire field of drivers was involved. The race had to be interrupted for almost 40 minutes. Enough time for the teams to get all cars ready again.
Lucas di Grassi catches up from grid position 19
Daniel Abt finished sixth and Lucas di Grassi, who started the race from 19th on the grid, fights his way up to ninth place. As a result, di Grassi's gap to the front runner in the drivers' standings has increased to 32 points. In the team classification Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler is 43 points behind DS Techeetah before the last two races.
A team can score 94 points at the finale in New York - so mathematically anything is still possible.
Everyone knows we never give up.
"It's been a pretty frustrating weekend for us, especially in terms of the drivers' and teams' title fights," said Team Leader Allan McNish after the eleventh race of the electric series season. "Overtaking was extremely difficult on this track. Nevertheless, Lucas scored two points from grid position 19. He's still in the title race. Daniel fought hard for sixth place today. We have two more races in New York. Everyone knows that we never give up."
The Formula E continues with a double race at the finale on 13-14 July in New York.
