From e-commerce to e-mobility: Major orders for KUKA in the future market China

KUKA received several orders in the Chinese market in the second quarter. The automation specialist not only scored in traditional areas, but also won orders and projects in the general industry and e-mobility.

For example, KUKA China received its first truck project, with an order value of more than RMB 100 million (the equivalent of more than €13 million). The order, an important milestone in the truck business for KUKA China, uses the technical concept of KUKA matrix production. With elements such as autonomous transport systems and modular production cells, this concept ensures extremely versatile production.

For FAW-Volkswagen in China, KUKA built the first MEB battery pack production line and assisted in the planning of new facilities in China. The modular electric drive matrix (German abbreviation “MEB”) is a modular system developed by Volkswagen for the production of electric cars. The production line was finalized in the second quarter.

In the glass industry, KUKA China collaborated with global companies in the industry and received a large order for several hundred robots.

Swisslog is working with a leading domestic sports brand for a benchmark project. The project, which is in the upper double-digit million-euro range, focuses on a central warehouse for omni-channel order fulfillment, from e-commerce to wholesale. This allows all the customer's multi-business scenarios to be integrated – an important requirement especially in view of the rapid development in the e-commerce business.

With our know-how, we also support our customers in Asia in automating new areas and markets. We expect strong growth in the important future market of China in 2021. KUKA benefits from this development and its global orientation

Peter Mohnen, CEO of KUKA AG
