Tough requirements – that's why Icelandic company Raftakn went with KUKA

Another company has entered into a system partnership with KUKA Nor-dic. This time, it is a company that is not exactly next door: Icelandic en-gineering consultants Raftakn, 2,500 km from KUKA Nordic's headquar-ters in Gothenburg.“We did a lot of research before deciding which robots to invest in,” says co-owner Hafþór Rúnarsson.

Quality was important for the collaboration

According to Hafþór Rúnarsson, several factors tipped the scales in KUKA's favor. “The build quality, the ability to obtain the right IP ratings, and, not least, the versatility,” he says. Raftakn is an electrical engineering company with extensive experience. The company was founded in 1976 and currently has just over 30 employees. They are located at two sites in Iceland, in Akureyri and Reykjavik with nearly half of the employees being co-owners."

Packing Solutions for the food industry

The company specializes in designing applications for industry, but they also do a lot of work with public infrastructure. Another segment is the food industry. Raftakn supplies packaging solutions, among other things, to this sector. The missions involve PLC equipment and SCADA systems. When it comes to applications involving robots, they specialize in highly complex projects."These are assignments that require detailed simulation, among other things.
Once again, KUKA had a lot in its favor, with the iiQWorks software (formerly KUKA.Sim) as a strong asset.
The system partnership is a good thing overall, says Hafþór Rúnarsson. “It benefits both us and our clients. We gain expanded access to KUKA’s advisors and spe-cialists. And perhaps even more importantly, we also gain access to software that helps us create optimal solutions. In the long term, it also supports us in winning new contracts and growing our business.” The collaboration is also important for KUKA Nordic.
“A company like Raftakn, with its high level of expertise, strong drive, and exceptional deliveries, is a good ambassador for our brand.
