Roboticists and technology enthusiasts all over the world follow Simone Giertz

If you’re into robotics and you spend any time on social media, chances are you’ve seen at least one video clip featuring Simone Giertz. Over the past three years, Simone has risen to fame with her YouTube channel – an outlet where she’s become the undisputed "Queen of Sh*tty Robots", making contraptions that do mostly ridiculous things and often fail spectacularly and hilariously.

Simone has also appeared on talk shows around the world (as in this episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert). Some of her most recognizable robotics projects include a breakfast machine, a robotic alarm clock and a robot that serves soup – among a cadre of other self-professed terrible devices. Now, Simone is taking it to the next level in robotics - with the LBR iiwa on her side.

Simone challenges KUKA robot to a “duel”

Together, we wondered what the “Queen of Sh*tty Robots” could do with one of the world’s most advanced robots. So, for 13 weeks Simone will invite the human-collaborative-safe robot LBR iiwa into her workshop (AKA, her living room) for a weekly live webseries.

She won’t be doing the things this robot was designed for – namely precise assembly and handling tasks. But she will be programming the LBR iiwa to automate things that are typically thought of as boring chores, like painting her nails or pouring a drink.

Simone will be supported by service and technical staff from KUKA's new US West Coast office in Fremont, CA.

Who will win the battle for the title of "mundane task master": robot or human?

Find it out every Friday - it’s sure to be full of laughs, entertainment and a bit of enlightenment every time.
