Terre de Fromages connects 4 robots to iiQoT to gain visibility and responsiveness.

To improve the monitoring of its fleet of robots, Terre de Fromages—a Belgian company specializing in the production and packaging of cheese—has connected its KUKA robots to the iiQoT platform.

In 2023, the cheese dairy invested in four robots to automate part of its daily cheese production. These robots play an essential role in the manufacturing process: they prepare the molds before they are washed, stack them prior to use, and assist with demolding operations both before and after the cheese is placed in brine.

The robot stacks the molds for storage, then retrieves them for use.

Always keen to leverage production data, in 2025 Terre de Fromages set out to connect its robots to the iiQoT platform using the Connectivity Box. This solution enables the company to collect and analyze production data in real time.

Connecting production data to better manage operations

« The implementation of the iiQoT solution went smoothly overall, and the support provided by KUKA Benelux was excellent throughout the project. The pre-analysis questionnaire allowed us to identify the key technical points that needed to be addressed prior to deployment, and the commissioning process went very well," explains Vincent Vaessen, Technical Manager at Terre de Fromages.

After a year of use, the team particularly values the visibility the platform provides regarding the performance and status of its equipment: "iiQoT allows us to check the robots' operating hours, monitor their energy consumption, and remotely review alerts or events. Email notifications are also very useful for staying promptly informed about the status of our robots."

Real-time monitoring to increase responsiveness and facilitate support

Remote data access is also a significant asset for maintenance operations: "The ability to consult robot data remotely facilitates initial analysis when an incident occurs and helps in better preparing for maintenance interventions."

Thanks to this enhanced visibility, Terre de Fromages can identify areas requiring attention more quickly and streamline communication with KUKA experts, ensuring more effective and targeted support.

The company also highlights how easy the solution is to get to grips with, and is currently continuing to explore its advanced features: "The solution remains accessible, and we keep discovering new possibilities as we use it—particularly in terms of creating custom dashboards and analyzing the available data."

Tangible benefits for Terre de Fromages

  • Centralized visibility across 4 connected robots
  • Monitoring of operating hours and energy consumption
  • Remote access to alerts and events
  • Automatic email notifications
  • Faster diagnostics in the event of an incident
  • Improved preparation for maintenance operations
The robots remove the cheeses from their molds and collect them to fill trays, which are then sent to the brine bath. A third robot retrieves the cheeses after brining and places them onto a conveyor that transports them to the aging area.

iiQoT provides us with valuable visibility into our fleet of robots and makes it easier to monitor our equipment on a daily basis. We see significant further potential for development in terms of data utilization and the customization of dashboards.
