The 15th international foundry trade fair GIFA is one of four events that will fill the exhibition halls in Düsseldorf from June 12 to 16. Under the motto “The Bright World of Metals,” the trade fair quartet GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST, with 2,200 exhibitors, creates an important platform for encounters. The organizers expect 78,000 visitors from all over the world. “We are pleased to be back at this year’s GIFA, after 2019, and to present our expertise in foundry technology,” says Ufuk Özdemir, Head of Business Unit Casting & Deburring at KUKA Industries. He is looking forward to welcoming numerous visitors at booth C42 in hall 11.
Manufacturing cell for customized automation
The robotic machining cell for automated fettling of castings is likely to attract particular interest. The KUKA cell4_premachining manufacturing cell can be used for deburring and milling as well as for grinding. It also enables the finishing of different components and materials with maximum flexibility and user-friendliness. The customer exhibit on display at the fair supports Hawle Guss GmbH from Fürstenwalde in the production of valves, among other things.
“The cell is an economical and customized solution thanks to versatile modular packages and automation options,” informs Ufuk Özdemir. The most important components of the post-machining cell are a KR QUANTEC nano, the KUKA Milling application software, a powerful motor spindle, a 13-fold tool changer and a KUKA 3-axis positioner KP3-V2V-3.
Heavy-duty robots for the requirements of the foundry industry
The new KR FORTEC ultra heavy-duty robot is also helping the foundry industry to combine an ancient craft with Industry 4.0 in the best possible way. Thanks to maximum payload with minimum space requirements, the new robot was created to master the increased demands on payload and reach when handling workpieces with even higher moments of inertia. “The new robots can lift up to 800 kilograms and are still very precise and fast,” Özdemir highlights the advantages of the new KR FORTEC ultra. Visitors to the KUKA booth at GIFA get to experience the robot live.
Flexible production thanks to mobile platforms
For the most automated handling and processing possible in the foundry industry, AGV and AMR fleets complete KUKA's portfolio. They take goods and raw materials to where they are needed. Thanks to their extensive safety technology, such as camera-based 3D object recognition, they fit seamlessly into existing production environments, such as those of a foundry. At the trade fair in Düsseldorf, KUKA showcasts a mobile platform of the type KMP 600, which offers strong support in production with a payload of 600 kilograms. “Laser scanners at the front and rear of the machine allow high speeds in all directions of travel,” says Özdemir, citing another special feature.
We are pleased to be back at this year’s GIFA, after 2019, and to present our expertise in foundry technology.
The KUKA Industries team at GIFA in Düsseldorf does not only support visitors with the right products, but also with expertise in automation solutions. Information on applications already implemented in the foundry industry will give visitors an overview of what robotics and efficient automation make possible along the entire foundry process chain.
