Groundbreaking for the new production hall in Kunshan

KUKA Industries, affiliate company of KUKA AG continues to expand its market position in the Asia-Pacific region as KUKA Industries Headquarters Asia: November will see the start of construction of a new production hall in Kunshan, to the west of Shanghai. China is the biggest automation market in the world. The automation specialist already has production sites in Kunshan and Shanghai for the manufacture of robot systems and logistical components. The new production hall will create up to 200 additional jobs.

Space for new jobs

The new production hall, which covers 17,750m2, will be occupied by KUKA Industries, formerly Reis Robotics (China). The site will house the prefabrication and testing of various battery produc-tion, foundry technology and intralogistics projects. Construction of the hall, which will create up to 200 additional jobs, is scheduled to be completed in January 2018.

Close to a growing market

KUKA Industries already employs around 300 people in Kunshan. Alongside the company's head-quarters in Shanghai, the industrial location in Eastern China is one of KUKA's most important pro-duction sites. Reis Robotics opened its own 11,000 m² factory in Kunshan in 2013 in order to plan and implement turnkey robotic systems specifically for the Chinese market. Swisslog also has a site in Kunshan. Various logistics systems have been developed and assembled here since 2008. The Swiss company, which has been part of the KUKA Group since December 2014 as well, will also be assigned a section of the new hall for automation projects.

This new production hall will give the industrial location a further boost. "This will allow us to meet the rapidly growing demands of the Chinese market in the best way possible and further the growth of our companies," says Dr. Manfred Emonts, CEO KUKA Industries China.

Reis Robotics Deutschland has been part of KUKA Industries GmbH since the spring of 2014. The strengths of KUKA and Reis are now combined under the umbrella of KUKA Industries as a result of the merger. KUKA customers will thus profit from KUKA’s global expertise in automation compo-nents and solutions for a wide range of industries.
