Mixed Reality Interface

Get an exclusive insight into KUKA's new innovation project and join us for a look at the future of robot operation.

The idea

The Mixed Reality Interface pilot project is an ongoing innovation project at KUKA. The basic idea is to visualize application data such as protective and work spaces as well as robot paths directly at the cell, thus enabling commissioning tasks to be completed more quickly and easily. To do this, we are using mixed reality technology so that the user can see digital content directly in the environment using mobile devices or head-mounted displays, such as the Microsoft Hololens.

Offerings

  • Time saving

Faster optimization of safety and paths (up to 20% time saving during commissioning)

  • Risk reduction

Find errors in the safety room configuration easily

  • Efficiency increase

Visualization of abstract information for user-friendly training and faster learning

Features

MixedReal_Safe

Display your protective and work spaces directly in the cell as holograms and check them at a glance. Check the monitored safety spheres on the robot in the same way. Edit your safety configuration live in 3D before your eyes - for faster and better safety commissioning.

MixedReal_Path

Visualize the planned paths of your robot and let the digital twin execute them even before the real robot moves. Make adjustments to path points and see the result directly - more intuitively than ever before. Grasp the virtual robot model with your hand and guide the tool center point to different poses on a test basis.

Our vision

We see great potential in Mixed Reality technology to redefine the way we work with robots. Our vision is to make the technology usable for the entire KUKA product family. But it also continues outside the cell: we have many ideas on how we can use Mixed Reality to create added value in other fields of application, such as training or support.
