Complete information at a glance: KUKA.ProcessScreen monitors the entire process chain

Visualize, monitor and seamlessly document processes – including all relevant parameters of the robot: The new application software from KUKA enables you to do all this, in almost real time. Find out here about the further advantages of KUKA.ProcessScreen.

Record the entire processing operation

Process monitoring systems in production are nothing new. But now, for the first time, the KUKA.ProcessScreen software makes it possible to record the entire processing operation in real time – including all relevant robot data. Irrespective of the type of process or the process equipment used. All information about the process that is available to the robot controller via the usual interfaces can be configured, combined with the relevant robot data, and thus visualized, monitored and documented.

Parameters for all requirements

In automated arc welding, for example, KUKA.ProcessScreen records the parameters of the power source, such as current and voltage or wire feed rate, together with the quantity of shielding gas per minute. However, the actual velocity at the working point (the robot TCP velocity) can also be measured, together with the corresponding axis angle or the acceleration values, for example. This also includes selectable parameters from the robot itself, which are relevant for a comprehensive overview of the process in question.

Seamless documentation in real time

The documentation is seamless and, thanks to web-based technology, visualization is possible on almost any end device. Tabular and graphical overviews of the results are available at the touch of a button. Through comparison with individually configurable limit values, the software provides early detection of deviations, thus enabling rapid intervention that can be automated. Intensive reworking or even rejects can thus be greatly reduced, and long-term production quality is stabilized.

One tool for all processes

“We are taking data management in process monitoring to a new level,” explains Artur Moser, Product Manager at KUKA. “The challenge is that each process equipment manufacturer provides its own process monitoring tools. The configuration and user guidance differ and customers have to work with different data contents and evaluations. The result: increased effort for commissioning and for training measures. The relevant robot parameters can often not be recorded or only insufficiently. KUKA.ProcessScreen is the ideal solution for this.” A single software package, with a consistent operating concept and the same data content for all processes and process equipment – including important robot parameters.

Greater transparency, more safety, higher quality

The advantages for customers are clear: The standardized configuration enables simple operation and monitoring, making processes much more transparent. Production is stable – with consistently high quality. “For example, if KUKA.ProcessScreen detects a problem during laser cladding of a gas turbine, it is possible to respond early and quickly prevent damage amounting to a quarter of a million euros or more,” explains Moser. The flexible configuration of monitoring functions, tolerance ranges and error strategies allows customers to tailor KUKA.ProcessScreen to their individual processes and continuously optimize their workflows.

Easy retrofitting with KUKA.ProcessScreen

KUKA.ProcessScreen has been available since January 2021 and its impressive performance is not limited to arc welding processes: The software is also the ideal documentation solution for laser welding and laser cladding or for adhesive bonding and spot welding applications. Furthermore, the technology packages KUKA.ArcTech (from version 3.4 onwards) and KUKA.LaserTech (from version 5.0 onwards) already offer the option of conveniently defining, within the technology commands, relevant parameters from process equipment predefined there for monitoring by KUKA.ProcessScreen. Existing applications can also benefit: Simple retrofitting with KUKA.ProcessScreen is also possible. A precondition for this is a KR C4 robot controller with KSS 8.6 or higher, or installations with a KR C5.

Using KUKA.ProcessScreen, our customers can reliably record, evaluate and document their entire process in real time, around the clock. Irrespective of the process or the process equipment used.
