KUKA receives another large order from Siemens Healthcare

In January 2012, KUKA received another large order from Siemens Healthcare for type KR 240 MED AX medical robots

2012. február 6.

The order is valued in the upper single-digit million euro range and will be delivered by Advanced Robotics (KUKA Laboratories). Over the course of this year between eight and nine medical robots will be shipped to the customer every month. Siemens Healthcare and KUKA have been working together in the field of robot-supported medical systems since 2005.

KUKA robotics technology is increasingly being used for both diagnostics and therapeutics. Robots have a distinct advantage whenever very precise, tremor-free motion is required.

The quality of the movements remains consistent and robots do not tire. For this application, KUKA's KR 240 MED AX is being used as part of a medical angiographic system (vascular imaging). The robot guides a C-arm x-ray device around the patient, which considerably improves positioning flexibility compared to conventional angiographic imaging. Robot-assisted C-arm x-ray imaging offers doctors completely new x-raying options.

Healthcare is a key market of the future for new robotic applications for Advanced Robotics (KUKA Laboratories). "KUKA is expanding its presence in this market and intends to set new standards with its innovations. KUKA's broad expertise is in demand wherever automation solutions improve efficiency and flexibility," explained Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG, as he outlined the potential applications.
