AUDI AG placed a frame contract with KUKA Roboter GmbH for the supply of 700 industrial robots.

13 August, 2010

The robots will be used at the Ingolstadt site where the automaker is setting up a new car body assembly line for the Audi A3. The customer is implementing innovative manufacturing technologies in this production that will also be used by other Volkswagen Group brands. For this project AUDI AG chose the KR C4 new generation control system from KUKA Roboter, which will be used for the first time by a large automaker. "We have a long-standing partnership with AUDI AG and the Volkswagen Group, and are excited to continue our cooperation with this new vehicle project," said Manfred Gundel, CEO of KUKA Roboter GmbH.

The KR C4 new generation control system celebrated its world premier in June at AUTOMATICA, the international trade fair for automation and mechatronics. Using integrated, intelligent software solutions, KUKA has created a control system with unmatched performance that replaces hardware components and is based on open industry standards. Integrating future technological advances is now much simpler. Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG: "With the new control system as the core element of the new generation of KUKA industrial robots just introduced to the market, we are once again demonstrating our technology leadership and strengthening our market leadership in the automotive segment."

AUDI AG's total order volume for the supply of robots is in the low double-digit million euro range and will be delivered by the 4th quarter of 2010.
