KUKA intensifies business relations with airbus

KUKA Aktiengesellschaft’s KUKA Systems division is expanding its business relations with the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus Toulouse

12 May 2009

Both companies signed framework agreements for the supply of internal logistics equipment including transport devices, hoists and assembly apparatus for the upper and lower wing shell, the "center wing box", the keel beam and section 19 of the A350 XWB. The systems will be used in the Airbus plants in Stade/Germany, Illescas/Spain and Nantes/France.

The project encompasses several stages over a period extending to 2015. The first stage – the installation of systems for an aircraft’s basic equipment – is worth several tens of millions of euros and is currently underway. These key agreements reflect the continuation of KUKA’s successful strategy to expand its activities beyond the automotive industry, in this case, to the aircraft industry.

Previously KUKA had signed an agreement with Airbus for the supply of "omniMove" assembly platforms at the end of last year (see press release from December 10, 2008).
