KUKA wins bigger order from Thailand

KUKA has won a major automotive industry order destined for Thailand, congruent with its strategy to expand its business in Asian growth markets

17 August 2010

KUKA Systems GmbH will build a complete manufacturing line to make Ford Focus car bodies at Ford Motor Company's Rayong plant. The automated line comprises underbody, body sides, doors and hatches manufacturing stations. The new Ford Focus will be built in Thailand for the domestic market and for export to the Asia-Pacific region. This order was received in the third quarter of 2010 and will be completed by the end of 2011.

KUKA Systems will execute this project together with an international team of systems engineers from Detroit/Michigan, Augsburg/Germany and Shanghai/China. The advantages of KUKA's global organization will thus be fully tapped to benefit the customer.

Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG, underlines the importance of this order to KUKA Group: "This bigger order from Thailand confirms our strategy to expand in the region of the future, Asia. We are further growing our strong automotive sector market share in this growth region on the basis of our technology leadership."
