KUKA and VINCI Energies Deutschland test possibilities of the cloud

The goal of KUKA and VINCI Energies Deutschland is the joint development of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications and associated digital services.

1 February 2018

connyun IIoT platform as starting point

A joint hackathon was held to launch the Digital Lab of VINCI Energies Deutschland. In mid-January 2018 in Frankfurt, the approximately 35 participants used the KUKA LBR iiwa to identify robotic use cases for cloud usage in a production environment.

Specific testing was carried out to see what work processes of the HRC-capable LBR iiwa can be visualized and analyzed on the connyun IIoT platform. KUKA subsidiary connyun developed the pioneering Industrie 4.0 cloud platform at the center of these applications.

LBR iiwa applications are visualized in the cloud

One potential and market-relevant task of the LBR iiwa was to grip a light bulb – representing objects in general – and hand it directly to a person. This interaction between human and robot was visualized on online dashboards. A second scenario: the sensitive robot is linked directly to SAP. In the simulated work process, the robot independently had to reorder parts that were running out.

Next hackathon in April

The initial event was highly promising. The next hackathon is being held from 6 to 8 April 2018. This time, it will be organized by Vinci Energies Europe at the future premises of the Digital Lab. Topics of the international event: “Human Beyond Digital Hack: 48 hours of human-machine interaction”. As in the previous hackathon, other partners, such as Microsoft, SAP and Siemens will be collaborating alongside the LBR iiwa and connyun on the development of smart solutions.
