KUKA buy Alema Automation

Augsburg/Bordeaux, March 6, 2014 – KUKA, one of the world's largest suppliers of robotics and automation systems, has acquired Alema Automation SAS based in Bordeaux. Alema supplies automation solutions to the aviation industry and has specialized applications expertise in the field of automated drilling and riveting of aircraft components.

Last year, the company generated sales revenues of EUR 16.7 million with seventy-five employees. 
KUKA has gathered considerable experience and expertise delivering assembly systems to the aviation industry and has established a foothold in this market, especially in North America. "There is currently a strong push in the aviation sector to automate," explains Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG. "This acquisition gives us the key expertise we need to offer complete solutions to the sector. It also fits our growth strategy in the general industry business."
Larry Drake, CEO of KUKA Systems North America, adds the following: "We know Alema because we have worked together on many projects. We thus look forward to close collaboration with our colleagues in France."
