CEO Dr. Reuter: “We are expanding our capacity in Shanghai to better serve our customers in Asia.”

Roughly a year after the foundation stone was laid, Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG, was on site at the new Shanghai plant to kick off production. With this facility, KUKA is further consolidating its leading market position in China and benefiting from the trend towards automation solutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Till Reuter stated: “The Chinese robot market has a high potential. We have already won renowned Chinese companies as customers. This is why we are expanding our capacity in Shanghai – to better serve our customers in Asia.”
Manfred Gundel, Chairman of the Board of Management of KUKA Roboter GmbH, added: “We are pleased to be strengthening our presence in the Shanghai region and in the local automotive cluster. We would like to extend a warm welcome to the employees who will be working at this site.”

Highest quality standard

In the future, 350 employees will be producing 3,000 robots of the KR QUANTEC series annually, along with the KR C4 universal controller. This will allow KUKA to serve European manufacturers in China, Chinese customers in the automotive industry, as well as an increasing number of General Industry customers. The KUKA Shanghai location will thus be expanded into one of three hubs, along with Augsburg and Detroit, with its own sales and organizational structure. All in all, it will be possible to expand production to a capacity of 5,000 units in coming years without compromising on KUKA’s customary top quality. Production in China too conforms to German standards and thereby to KUKA quality requirements as well.

KUKA in China

KUKA has been present in China since the year 2000. The internationally oriented company has already expanded its Chinese subsidiary into an important hub. In addition to subsidiary headquarters in Shanghai, KUKA has four branch offices in China with sales and service units, making close proximity to customers a reality.
On March 11, 2014, KUKA will celebrate the opening of the new plant in Shanghai in the company of customers, partners and other guests.
