KUKA lands major automotive sector order from VW

KUKA AG’s Systems division was awarded another major contract from Volkswagen AG in the mid double-digit million EURO range. Orders received were booked in the third quarter of 2013.

23 September 2013

The project comprises the installation of new systems and equipment in various plants in the area of vehicle underbodies for Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB). MQB is a key element with which VW intends to increase efficiency. “We are helping our customer reach this goal by designing and building the new assembly lines for the rear underbody and side members,” explains Frank Klingemann, CEO of KUKA Systems GmbH. KUKA robots will be integrated in the various systems and perform standard tasks such as spot welding, gluing and handling. “Variety and diversity play a big role in this order. Future models will roll off these lines that sustainably promote environmental protection,” continues Klingemann.

Together with our customers and research institutes, we are designing the production lines of tomorrow. Our expertise in plant engineering makes us both a global leader and an innovation pioneer. Our extensive, ongoing R&D efforts are what make us an automation specialist.
