German Chancellor Angela Merkel to visit KUKA in Augsburg

Augsburg, 11 February, 2015. On February 23, KUKA AG will have the honor of welcoming German Chancellor Angela Merkel to its company headquarters in Augsburg.

11 February 2015

In an informative dialog, the Chancellor plans to speak with KUKA CEO Till Reuter about forward-looking robot and control technology for the factory of the future. She will be touring the company to see the state of the art for herself.

As Europe’s leading supplier of industrial robots and automated production solutions, KUKA is directly involved in the fourth industrial revolution – and intends to help shape it through its products. This development, known as Industry 4.0, encompasses the increasing digitization of production and the cooperative networking of workers and machines.

To this end, the tour will focus on KUKA’s hardware and software components such as the sensitive lightweight robot LBR iiwa, intended to serve as an assistant to humans in the factory of the future. The sensitivity and safety functions of the LBR iiwa are unparalleled worldwide, meeting the prerequisite both for this type of collaboration and for safe automation technology. Combined with the KUKA Sunrise modular controller based on mainstream IT technology, KUKA is equipped for the future requirements of Industry 4.0.

With its membership in the “Industry 4.0” platform and its involvement in industry associations such as the VDMA, the company wishes to drive tomorrow’s production forward and in so doing also help shape tomorrow’s labor market. The interests of the human workers are paramount for KUKA in this process.

For the German government as well, the fusion of the world of IT with the world of industrial production is essential in order to ensure the economic leadership of Germany and Europe.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to speak with the Chancellor about these topics – what the production and work environment of the future will look like and how industry and politics can collaborate to give this development a further push”, says Dr. Till Reuter, CEO of KUKA AG.
