European Robotics Week is coming to Augsburg – Exclusive insights into the world of robotics

In November, the historic city of the Fugger family is being transformed into an innovation hotspot: the central event of this year’s European Robotics Week (ERW) is being held in the heart of Augsburg. As a partner of ERW, KUKA is offering numerous opportunities to experience robotics first hand.

31 October 2018

What can robots do and how are they going to change our lives? Mechanical assistants are making ever greater inroads into our daily lives and changing our society. But what does this development mean for people? In order to find out and to assess the situation, it is necessary to expose people to robots and help them to understand automation.

It is with this goal in mind that the European Robotics Association is organizing the seventh European Robotics Week with more than 1,000 events all over Europe and an estimated 80,000 visitors. The central venue this time is Augsburg. During European Robotics Week, KUKA will be offering numerous exhibitions, presentations and other activities for adults and children.

Official opening of European Robotics Week

The European association euRobotics is bringing the central ERW 2018 event to Augsburg with the slogan “Robotics for you”. From 16 to 18 November, visitors to the Tuscan Hall can take in the ERW exhibition “From the Romans to Robotics”. The exhibition will be combining the economic history of Augsburg, which is steeped in tradition, with a glimpse at the latest technological developments. Renowned institutes and companies will be showcasing their innovations.

On 16 November, ERW will be ceremonially opened in the presence of prominent repre-sentatives of the worlds of politics, industry and research. The event is being held in the impressive surroundings of the Prince’s Room in Augsburg and is open to all. Doors open at 2.30 p.m. at Rathausplatz 2 in 86150 Augsburg.

KUKA is issuing an open invitation to these events in Robotics Week

Presentation: Humans and robots – A history of (r)evolution

The capabilities of robots are continuously improving; they are able to take on ever more challenging tasks. This enables closer collaboration between humans and robots. The first systems have the capacity to learn, to move themselves and to be aware of their surroundings. Torsten Kröger is Head of the Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics and responsible for Intelligent Process Automation and Robotics. In the presentation he will be explaining how these systems work and where the journey is leading.

The event is being held on 20 November at 6 p.m. at Zugspitzstrasse 140 in 86165 Augs-burg. It is possible to register via www.kuka.com/erw2018 or by e-mail to erw2018@kuka.com.

Open day: “SmartFactory as a Service”

A revolutionary cooperation opens the door for new ideas: MHP Management- und IT-Beratung GmbH, KUKA and Munich Re have bundled their synergies and jointly developed the innovative “SmartFactory as a Service” concept. The combining of core competencies in software integration, automation technology, systems engineering as well as risk and financial management is creating visionary production solutions for the requirements of the future.

The open day will provide insights into the production of the future on Tuesday 20 November from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The SmartFactory as a Service will be opening its gates at Atelierstrasse 14, in 81671 Munich. Registration is not required. Registration for a guided tour in German or English is possible via www.kuka.com/erw2018 or by e-mail to erw2018@kuka.com.
